Mazarakata is a small village just 5 minutes from Argostoli. In Mazarakata, there is the residential complex “Prokris” with the well-equipped playground which has activities and games for all ages, a football pitch 5×5, a special track for electric cars and a small theater in which numerous events organized. Within the complex there is also a coffee shop / bar for those who want to relax enjoying a snack, a coffee or a drink.
In Mazarakata, there is a limited number of accommodations, but in the next village of Peratata there are rooms for rent, a beautiful 2 star Hotel with swimming pool, a mini market, cafes, restaurants and all amenities. The nearest beach is the beautiful beach of Ag. Thomas, in the next village Karavados, where visitors will find the excellent restaurant of Alekos and a lovely cafe with impeccable sea views.
In the 19th century the British, in their effort to build public works, found the well-known Mycenaean tombs Mazarakata. During the period of the British rule four graves were violated and findings came under the Swiss De Bosset which are now on display at the Swiss Neuchatel museum.
Kefalonians archaeologists Panagis Kavadias and Spiros Marinatos have brought to light 13th other underground tombs in different shapes and sizes which, until recently, were exposed in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli.
